WHEN COAL WAS KING: 1940 Library

Voice of the Valley published a historical retrospective on Black Diamond’s library evolution from 1916 to 2008. The article traces the library’s journey from the Pacific Coast Coal Hotel through multiple relocations, including a move to the railroad depot in 1922 and eventually to a dedicated 5,000-square-foot King County Library System facility on Roberts Drive that opened in May 2008. While Black Diamond is a neighboring community, this is primarily regional history with no direct impact on Maple Valley.
