Wilson’s executive order, Seattle SAFER Streets Act hoped to speed up Vision Zero, slow down drivers

Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson issued an executive order to accelerate street safety projects ahead of the school year, while the Seattle City Council advanced the Seattle SAFER Streets Act on Thursday. The legislation formally adopts the city’s Vision Zero Action Plan to reduce traffic fatalities by 2030, expanding safety tools like leading pedestrian intervals and speed management devices. The initiatives aim to address 27 traffic fatalities recorded in 2025, primarily pedestrian deaths.
